Running with Scissors is a piece of multimedia journalism that tries to explain how the cuts in children’s services are being made in the city of Birmingham. The aim of the project is to combinate data analysis with interviews to experts and human stories in order to create a comprehensive narration of a quite complex subject.
Running with Scissors is not linked to any newspaper or media organisation, but it is a project developed for the MA in Online Journalism at Birmingham City University.
There is no one to blame but myself, Duarte Romero Varela. I’m a Galician journalist but I have been living in the UK for three years. Nowadays I’m studying the MA in Online Journalism at Birmingham City University, and Running with Scissors is my final project.
My areas of expertise are data journalism and social media (just in case you want to hire me) and, among other projects, I contribute to Behind the Numbers, a datablog set up by the Birmingham Mail; I write the blog Geek Vizious and I also run Galiza no UK, an online community for the Galician diaspora.
If you want to know more about me, you can visit any of the sites I named before or follow me on Twitter. I’m finishing my masters in September, so it’s a great time to contact me if you are looking for a data journalist
